Senior Moments and Sleep Deprivation

Since it's apparently world photography day today, here are some recent photos I took of my beautiful niece who is a senior this year.

Might be awhile before I post again. Just took a second job which will be keeping me busy with 3am wake up times. Though, given my track record of sparse blog posts, I would think it wouldn't be that surprising :)

YOLO,

Roller Derby

Been meaning to post these for awhile, but life has just been so busy! These are the MN Rollergirls from the match on January 19th, 2013 at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St Paul, Minnesota.

Duluth Adventure

Just before the Labor Day weekend, my friend Thea and I took a one night camping trip up in the Duluth area. My favorite thing about Minnesota is definitely Lake Superior.

BOSS

This was a really crazy week for me. Between stressful school situations and far too many photo assignments, I barely kept my sanity. But little bits of humor helped get me through. Let me share them with you ...
Founder and artistic director of Penumbra Theatre Lou Bellamy poses for a photo in front of the quilt wall at Penumbra Wednesday afternoon. Each panel of the quilt wall is a snapshot of a name or place relevant to the community that Penumbra is a part of. Bellamy will be speaking at the U of M Thursday evening, January 25th. And let's face it... he looks like a boss!
Kate Nelson, barn manager at the St Paul location of We Can Ride poses for a photo with cocoa in the barn on the St Paul campus. Nelson will be featured in the Spring issue of UMN Alumnae Minnesotta Magazine. I was contacted by the editor to do freelance photos of this fun lady. After putting up with my posing and messing with flashes, the horse decided to show her feelings about the proceedings! Best thing was I didnt realize she stuck her tongue out until I was going through and editing them! :)
During the half time show at the Gopher women's basketball game there was this... cute dogs jumping hurdles in the excitement of slamming into a panel to retrieve a tennis ball! Just too funny! :) oh and the gophers lost
And this was how my week started. After receiving the false news that I would not be able to graduate in May, I decided burning my biology notes would make me feel better... and it did! WORST CLASS IVE EVER TAKEN! How one professor can manage to make her entire class hate her and the subject is... common? "C's get degrees" that's all I can say.

Blackfish CD Release Concert

James Everest and Joel Pickard of Blackfish perform at the Bryant Lake Bowl Theater Saturday evening. Blackfish's songs are complex layers of sound interwoven with improvisational guitar melodies that are truly captivating. They use special effect pedals to create loops, reverb and other stylistic changes to achieve an ambience of music, unique to each performance.

Forest Meanderings

I recently got back with some friends after our annual Fall camping trip up north. This year we stayed at Tettegouche State Park and went hiking along the Superior Hiking Trail. I spent the majority of my time photographing forest things that I found interesting. So much to work with compositionally but I was really just relaxing and not focusing too much on the constraints of rules.
I can't get over the richness of Fall color and the beauty of the natural landscape. What an amazing God we have, who would not only create such beauty but also give us the ability to enjoy it.

Regents selection at the state capitol

A joint legislature meeting in the St Paul Capitol building Monday February 21, 2011. Not even Presidents day or a foot of snow would stop the selection of new regents for the University of MN. I was covering the meeting with MN Daily reporter Conor Shine. Read his story 'Political' regents process to end for more info on the happenings.

Sen. Michelle Fischbach, R-Paynesville

After the meeting was over, the capitol building was pretty much empty. The hustle of the day is held in stark contrast when everything is quiet and closing down for the evening.

MnSCU Rally at the Capitol

State Chair of Minnnesota State Colleges Student Association Andrew Spade speaks on the capitol steps Wednesday morning for the rally on tuition cuts. Senator John Carlson introduced a bill that proposes a temporary freeze on current tuition increases and placing a permanent limit on tuition increases. MSCSA organized the rally that began with a march from St. Paul Cathedral and ended at the State Capitol. Around 400 Students from all across Minnesota gathered on the capitol steps to let the legislatures know they care.

Rooftop Comedy Competition

This is a video I worked on for the Daily.
University students compete during the "Last Gopher Standing" at Coffman Union. The Rooftop Comedy National College Comedy Competition hosted the event, the winner of which would go on to the national level.

Sarah Pray Music Video

Last summer I worked on a music video for a local singer/ songwriter Sarah Pray. My co-worker Gil Robles set up the shoot and we came up with somewhat of a story line to create, but given hectic schedules and the school year approaching we had to scratch the second part of our shoot. This is the footage from the night we spent playing on Nicollet Ave in Downtown Minneapolis.
Sarah Pray performing Thank God.

Chicago

Having never been to Chicago, I ventured forth with some lovely ladies :) After eating and walking our way through the city, I decided I could definitely live there for awhile. Loved it.
